BARNEY FRANK & RON PAUL: BIN LADEN IS DEAD, SO DEFUND THE MILITARY

ALERT: Just days after the announcement of Osama bin Laden’s death, Barney Frank and Ron Paul both demanded a nearly complete gutting of the U.S. defense budget – on the foolish premise that America is now safe from terrorists.

As noted by Obama challenger 2012 Democrat Presidential Candidate Randall Terry, “the premise that somehow the Islamic world will suddenly cease their blood-thirsty quest for world domination is absolutely ludicrous.” The Islamic terrorists are dead set on the utter destruction of Western civilization – with or without Osama bin Laden.

Yes, fiscal accountability is long overdue, and absolutely necessary. We must get America’s financial house in order. However, to sacrifice national security for electoral gain, in a weak attempt to appear fiscally responsible is nothing less than dereliction of duty. There is no forgiveness on offer to Congress for imperiling our nation’s safety and stability by failing in both economic and geo-political military policy – and further paralysis in taking responsibility for new, realistic and strategic spending priorities is perhaps the single most irresponsible action Congress could possibly take.

Unfortunately, the clamor does not end with Congressmen Frank and Paul. Democrats and Republicans alike are threatening to cut the defense budget, using the debt ceiling as their latest excuse to gut our military of vital funding for essential defense needs they are too partisan, feckless and irresponsible to have studied, and do not understand. But they are more than willing to exploit our troops for a policy advantage. Pundits and politicians both are falsely claiming that failure to raise the debt ceiling will result in soldiers going unpaid.

This is a LIE. The truth is that the United States DOES NOT lack the funds to pay its current debt obligations or its military. We DO lack the funds to pay our current debt obligations AND squander billions and trillions more on the needless spending follies of feckless politicians and out-of-control government!

The troops need and deserve our support in every way — not the back of the hand and the blame-game from gutless politicians shifting responsibility for their absurd priorities and poor management onto those who stand in harm’s way for our Republic!

According to Senator Pat Toomey (R-PA) in the Wall Street Journal recently, “…if Congress refuses to raise the debt ceiling, the federal government will still have far more than enough money to fully service our debt. Next year, for instance, about 6.5% of all projected federal government expenditures will go to interest on our debt… why would we ever default? To make absolutely sure, I intend to introduce legislation that would require the Treasury to make interest payments on our debt its first priority in the event that the debt ceiling is not raised.”

The facts are clear, while the Establishment excuses are weak and cowardly: our military is left to counter the rising global threat of militant Islam with shrunken budgets and aging equipment while politicians continue to pour billions of dollars into idiotic programs studying the drinking habits of college freshmen, the gas emissions from cows and bridges to nowhere. But if BOTH parties would simply slash the pork, kill the pet projects and quit lining their pockets, the national debt could be reduced while our military stays strong and America remains the world’s shining beacon of freedom…all without raising the debt ceiling!

The debt ceiling is a comparative non-issue if the Republicans simply do what we sent them to Washington to do — SLASH THE SPENDING AND CUT THE PORK! Cut it not with a butter knife like the previously proposed paltry $1 billion cuts, (0.07% of our debt) — but with chainsaws, axes, mowers and cleavers!

There is a bright future in store for America — we WILL remain the land of the free, the home of the brave, IF WE ACT. But if we intend to remain a beacon of hope to the world, we must return to the bootstrap ideals of decent self-reliance and personal responsibility that made this country great. This is only possible if we get our financial house in order and cut the pork, stop the waste, halt the sweetheart deals and end the earmarks that harm our efficiency and accountability to the People. THERE CAN BE NO COMPROMISE — THE FECKLESS, UNCONSTITUTIONAL, PROFLIGATE SPENDING MUST STOP NOW!

I have argued for years that this problem is at root not a “money problem” but a moral and ethical problem which the American People, and the Representatives they entrust with governance of our great nation, MUST take in hand.

It is the eleventh hour for our Republic to get its priorities straight. No more weak and cowardly excuses from Congress. We must SUPPORT OUR TROOPS PROPERLY, WHILE WE STOP THE STUPID SPENDING!
