Former House Speaker Paul Ryan’s personal crusade against President Donald Trump didn’t stop when he left office.
Reports suggest that Ryan is pulling the strings behind the scenes at Fox News — and he wants to network to turn against the White House.
According to a Vanity Fair report, Ryan, now on the board of Fox News, has been whispering to Fox News’ CEO “about how to position the network for a post-Trump future.”
Lachlan Murdoch, son of news giant Rupert Murdoch and the Fox News chief, is reportedly listening.
“Fox should decisively break with the president,” Ryan reportedly told the higher-ups at the network.
“Paul is embarrassed about Trump and now he has the power to do something about it,” an executive at the network reportedly told Vanity Fair’s Gabriel Sherman.
Ryan’s anti-Trump vendetta is no surprise — but his position of power, now among Fox News board members, may carry weight.
It’s not just a battle behind-the-scenes for the future of Fox News. A public battle between Fox News daytime hosts and opinion anchors has started as well.
Most notably, daytime host Shep Smith and primetime host Tucker Carlson recently fought over the coverage of Trump’s phone call with Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelenskiy.
It’s management bedlam,” one Fox staffer said. “This massive thing happened, and no one knows how to cover it.”
Will Fox News be able to continue covering the president fairly?
Or will Ryan win?
