At a graduation commencement in Indiana, Vice President Mike Pence was invited to speak — so liberals hatched a plan to embarrass President Donald Trump’s right-hand man.
But their stunt backfired completely — and it left the crowd cheering.
At Taylor University a handful of students and faculty walked out of Pence’s speech before he even had the chance to start.
“Lately, it’s become acceptable, even fashionable, to malign traditional Christian beliefs,” Pence began to say as the protesters walked out. “So as you prepare to leave this place and build your life on a Christ-centered, world-engaging foundation poured here at Taylor University, be prepared to stand up.”
The overwhelming majority of those who stayed were treated with a rousing speech where he called for unity — and ended up giving Pence a roaring standing ovation afterward.
It seems the protesters attempt to embarrass Pence backfired. Pence is the same person who, after 2020 hopeful South Bend, Ind. Mayor Pete Buttigieg attacked his faith, refused to launch any attacks back in the other direction.
The protesters were out to condemn a man of good faith — and instead, just hurt themselves.
Students, alumni and faculty members of the Christian liberal arts school reportedly had mixed feelings out whether or not to invite Pence, citing his conservative views.
A petition, which fell short of the 10,000 needed to sign, called for the disallowing of Pence, because “giving him a coveted platform for his political views makes our alumni, faculty, staff and current students complicit in the Trump-Pence Administration’s policies, which we believe are not consistent with the Christian ethic of love we hold dear.”
The university kept Pence tabbed to speak at the university.
Pence’s speech was the first-ever U.S. official to give a commencement speech as the small university.
According to the Indianapolis Star, one student Emmanuel Boateng, was thrilled to hear Pence speak despite the controversial noise surrounding the commencement address.
“Because of his position it’s a privilege to have him speak here,” Boateng said. “…despite our differences, the whole entire campus has come together to celebrate.”
