‘Our heart is restless’
I read with interest the article in Monday’s paper, “ ‘Godless congregation’ opens in Rochester, New York.” It seemed strange at first. Why would 50 or so atheists, agnostics, non-believers and others meet on a Sunday morning, of all days, to celebrate the theme of “wonder”? Some said they have been searching for this type of gathering for a while; some drove 80 miles to be there; some wanted to show that you could be good without going to church; and some just wanted to have fellowship with others of the same belief.
But maybe, if we dig a little deeper, we will find that this is just one point along the journey for people who, like everyone else, are searching for true happiness. For as Saint Augustine wrote, “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.”
