1. NBC, CBS Ignore Congressional Hearing on Benghazi; ABC Gives It Only 46 Seconds
On Thursday evening, ABC was the only broadcast network to cover the day’s congressional hearing on the Benghazi attacks. Both CBS and NBC ignored the hearing. ABC only covered the story for 46 seconds; they gave twice that amount of coverage to the U.S. Olympic speedskating suits. NBC ignored the hearings after it was the only network on Thursday morning to even touch the latest developments in the Benghazi story. http://www.mrc.org/biasalerts/nbc-cbs-ignore-congressional-hearing-benghazi-abc-gives-it-only-46-seconds

2. NBC’s ‘Today’ Gives 28 Seconds to Benghazi Emails, Touts White House ‘Dismissing Claims’ of Cover-Up
During a 28-second news brief on Thursday’s NBC Today, anchor Natalie Morales seized on Obama administration spin downplaying newly-released emails suggesting a cover-up of Benghazi: “The White House is dismissing claims by Senator Lindsey Graham that a previously undisclosed talking points email is a smoking gun about the 2012 attack in Benghazi that killed four Americans….The White House says the email was explicitly not about Benghazi, but was about the overall situation in the region.” That parroting of White House talking points was the only mention of the ongoing scandal on the network morning shows on Thursday. CBS This Morning did a full report on the topic on Wednesday. ABC World News provided a full report Wednesday evening while NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams offered a mere news brief that glossed over key details. http://www.mrc.org/biasalerts/nbcs-today-gives-28-seconds-benghazi-emails-touts-white-house-dismissing-claims-cover

3. Krauthammer: ‘Media Are Somewhat Embarrassed’ By Missing Benghazi Dissembling
Columnist Charles Krauthammer contended, on Thursday’s Special Report with Bret Baier, that the release of the Ben Rhodes memo has changed the media dynamic in interest toward the Benghazi scandal because journalists are now “embarrassed” over being “rolled” by the White House: “What’s changed now, and we saw it in the briefing room, is I think the other media are somewhat embarrassed by the fact that, unlike Fox, they allowed themselves to be stoned and spun and rolled for a year and a half and now the memo appears and it’s obvious that they missed the story.” That may be true of the press corps in the White House briefing room, as Krauthammer cited, but there’s little evidence of any change in the media’s decision-making as to what is worthy of putting onto the air. http://www.mrc.org/biasalerts/krauthammer-media-are-somewhat-embarrassed-missing-benghazi-dissembling

4. Chris Matthews Thinks It’s ‘A Little Ridiculous’ to Blame Obama Admin for Benghazi Security
MSNBC’s Chris Matthews ranted on Thursday’s Hardball that “it’s a ridiculous” to hold the Obama administration culpable for the lack of security around the Benghazi compound during the September, 2012 attacks. “But the idea that somebody else should have been covering for him [Ambassador Chris Stevens], that someone else should have the army there waiting to defend him, I think it’s a little ridiculous,” Matthews insisted. http://www.mrc.org/biasalerts/chris-matthews-thinks-its-little-ridiculous-blame-obama-admin-benghazi-security

5. Joe Scarborough Eviscerates Donny Deutsch’s ‘Disgraceful’ Defense of White House on Benghazi
On Thursday’s MSNBC Morning Joe, host Joe Scarborough annihilated liberal pundit Donny Deutsch’s attempt to defend the Obama White House over emails showing a cover-up of the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attack: “I got everybody here apologizing for the White House. What about a cover-up here, Donny?!…what’s the politics of the White House lying about something that we all know they’re lying about?” Deutsch actually tried to spin the Democratic scandal as bad for Republicans: “I want to put up a warning for the Republicans because obviously the Republicans are seizing on this and jumping in. I think this is fools gold for 2016.” Scarborough tore into him: “Why are you jumping to political strategy instead of talking….about what [White Press Secretary] Jay Carney did, the double speak?!” http://www.mrc.org/biasalerts/joe-scarborough-eviscerates-donny-deutschs-disgraceful-defense-white-house-benghazi

6. GOP Finds Only 67% of ObamaCare Enrollees Paid First Premium; Networks Ignore
House Republicans determined that just two-thirds of ObamaCare enrollees paid their first month’s premium in the federal marketplace, but the broadcast networks ignored their finding on Thursday evening, though FNC’s Special Report with Bret Baier ran a full story. If true, the report would drastically undercut the White House’s number of ObamaCare enrollees. A report by the House Energy and Commerce Committee found that, according to data from all insurance providers, “only 67 percent of individuals and families that had selected a health plan in the federally facilitated marketplace had paid their first month’s premium and therefore completed the enrollment process.” http://www.mrc.org/biasalerts/gop-finds-only-67-obamacare-enrollees-paid-first-premium-networks-ignore

7. Ed Schultz: GOP Not Raising the Minimum Wage Is ‘Every Bit as Racist’ as Donald Sterling
MSNBC’s Ed Schultz on Wednesday found a way to connect conservatives to NBA owner Donald Sterling’s racist rant. Talking about Republicans in Congress, he sneered, “Not raising the wage, the minimum wage, is every bit as racist as comments made by Cliven Bundy and Donald Sterling. It’s just displayed in a different way.” Ascribing bigotry to any political differences with liberals, Schultz foamed, “I think not raising the minimum wage is a racist policy. Standing up, making the case that people of color in this country do not deserve a living wage is a racist policy.” Summarizing the whole concept, he lectured, “There’s a lot of different ways to prove racism in America.” http://www.mrc.org/biasalerts/ed-schultz-gop-not-raising-minimum-wage-every-bit-racist-donald-sterling
