Were Obama’s remarks treasonous?

On radio this morning, Glenn reacted with mounting frustration to President Obama’s highly anticipated speech on the conflict in Syria. After last night’s address, which came on the eve of the anniversary of the deadliest terror attacks on U.S. soil, Glenn found himself questioning what has happened to this nation in the last 12 years.
“I remember how many of us used to have bumper stickers on our car that said never forget, yet last night the President of the United States asked this country to back military action where our coalition would be made up of the Muslim Brotherhood and Al Qaeda,” Glenn said. “Never forget. Would we have allowed ourselves to fight in Japan with the Nazis? The reason why we have forgotten is we are not allowed to say the truth anymore. The truth is Islamic extremism is our enemy. The truth is Al Qaeda is our enemy. The truth is September 11th was done by 19 hijackers, all of them on jihad. Jihad is not a peaceful struggle within. Jihad, as it is defined in today’s Middle Eastern world and in many of the mosques here in America, means ‘kill.’”
After much thought, “arrogant” was the only word Glenn could muster to describe the President’s speech. “To look at the American people as such sheep and dummies, to think that we could digest his speech as a body politic today on the day of September 11th, and come up with anything other than this guy is asking us to really commit suicide or treason…” he said. “We are being asked to throw in with Al Qaeda on September 11th. It’s the height of arrogance.”
It is incredible to think that nearly 12 years to the day after the September 11 terrorist attacks, President Obama would openly acknowledge some of the rebels were indeed extremists from terror groups such as Al Qaeda. And he doubled down in his rhetoric that we would be working alongside these groups, not against them. It was that disturbing connection that lead Glenn to question whether the President is suicidal or treasonous.
