Barack Obama responded Wednesday with shock to Rick Santorum’s recent criticisms that the President was an irresponsible parent for sending his daughter to Mexico.
President Obama’s deputy campaign manager, Stephanie Cutter, ripped the Republican presidential candidate for raising an issue about Malia Obama’s recent school trip.
She blasted Mr Santorum for targeting the child on the campaign trail.
Ms Cutter told MSNBC: ‘I think that children, for candidate purposes, have always been off-limits in presidential campaigns, and really any campaign.
‘I’m surprised that Rick Santorum wouldn’t agree with that.’
The comments came after Mr Santorum talked with Glenn Beck on his conservative radio show on Tuesday about his opinion on President Obama’s decision to allow Malia, 13, to visit Mexico after the U.S. State Department issued a travel warning there.
He told Mr Beck: ‘What I would say is that the President’s actions should reflect what his administration is saying.
‘If the administration is saying that it’s not safe to have people down here, then just because you can send 25 Secret Service agents doesn’t mean you should do it.’
Mr Santorum went on to say: ‘You should set an example. I think that’s what presidents do. They set an example. And when the government is saying this is not safe, then you don’t set the example by sending your kids down there.’
President Obama’s eldest daughter was on a school-sponsored service trip in the southern border city of Oaxaca, close to the epicenter of a 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck central southern Mexico on Tuesday.
Malia was safe and was not harmed during the natural disaster that damaged hundreds of homes and sent residents running through the streets.
She was on the trip [SPRING BREAK PARTY TIME] with a dozen other American students.
The White House made a rare decision to discuss President Obama’s daughter following the earthquake to say that she was free from danger.
They usually ask for the teenage girl’s privacy when she is not with her parents if there is no relevant news interest in her whereabouts.
Several publications, including MailOnline, were aware of Malia’s visit to Mexico prior to the earthquake, but chose not to report it at the White House’s request.
In February, the State Department issued its warning about travelling to Mexico. They didn’t advise Americans not to visit, but they did warn that crime and violence could occur anywhere in Mexico.

    Malcolm…, I agree. They don’t care how much $ they spend — it isn’t theirs…it is OURS.

Rick Santorum is right 100%. I can not afford a trip anywhere but my tax dollars are being spend by Obama and his family like it’s their money. This is the most expensive first family in American history. Fire Obama today and the spineless congress that keep bowing down and giving into him.
