War hero/author David Bellavia will support the ACORN/Working Families candidate, Jack Davis. Davis was given the TEA Party line on the ballots in New York State. Davis is a socilaist and Bellavia’s endorsement is nothing short of sour grapes over the GOP’s corruption in corinating Corwin because she bought the seat. I am done with the GOP, NY Conservative Party, the NY republincans and the NY TEA Party…YOU ARE ALL CORRUPT AND HAVE NO MORAL COMPASS…
David Bellavia set to endorse someone other than GOP’s Jane Corwin
Conservative Republican David Bellavia will make an endorsement in Greece today in the tight race for Congress in the 26th District.
But he won’t endorse the candidate carrying the banner of the Conservative and Republican parties.
Bellavia, who passed petitions to run but has since left the race, said he has come under attack following his interest in the seat, including an anonymous email sent to his wife’s former employer alleging that his personal life was in ruins and rumors about him that circulated in his workplace, jeopardizing his employment.
The district is the setting for a tight race with Assemblywoman Jane Corwin, the endorsed Republican who will also appear on the Conservative line; Erie County Clerk Kathy Hochul, a Democrat; and Republican Jack Davis, an industrialist who ran for the seat three times as a Democrat.
The district leans Republican, but a poll released Monday from Public Policy Polling shows Hochul ahead by 4 percentage points, with support from 35 percent of voters. Corwin got 31 percent, Davis 24 percent, and Green Party candidate Ian Murphy 2 percent.
Davis is slated to appear with Bellavia, a veteran of the Iraq war from Batavia, at a veteran’s event at 6 p.m. today at Barnard Exempts Restaurant and Party House in Greece.
But Bellavia won’t say who is getting his endorsement, other than it won’t be Corwin.
Bellavia has been a loyal Republican, he said, campaigning for Rep. Chris Lee after it was clear Bellavia wouldn’t get the party’s support to run in 2008.
But he has had enough of the smears, he said.
“I don’t know who is behind this,” Bellavia said.
Corwin, the daughter of an Air Force reservist, said she didn’t know of anyone connected to her campaign who pressured Bellavia to leave the race.
“If they did they acted on their own,” she said.
Corwin has two veterans events planned this weekend.
Erie County Republican Chairman Nick Langworthy, who is working on behalf of Corwin’s campaign, said it was Bellavia’s failure to turn in an acceptance letter to the Board of Elections that got Bellavia removed from the ballot, not anything anyone else did.
Bellavia said he believes the paperwork was turned in with the petitions and does not understand his removal from the ballot.
